Khawam has experimented with outdoor paintings throughout his artistic career to learn his predecessor artists of the Hudson River school, the impressionism, post-impressionism, fauvism, modernism and created unique contemporary representational body of work. Khawam studies and observes nature and the surrounding areas near his studios in North New Jersey and South Florida by doing sketches and paintings in plein-air in the Hudson valley New York, and in South Florida to capture the essence of nature and light affects in different time of the day and weather condition. Through his index of images, from childhood memories of historical figures to everyday object painted in a natural urban environment with social commentary. He chronicles his life and the broader culture, synthesizing his visual material by reworking the paintings in his studio with a focus on the form, light with vivid colors to add his signature style.
